GNU Free Documentation License What everyday tasks do elderly people find difficult? Q. Hi all, I have an assignment for which I have to design an electronic handheld device which can be used by elderly people to support them in completing everyday tasks. I don't know anyone elderly to ask so if anyone has any suggestions/knowledge about what sort of tasks elderly people find difficult, then any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time :-) Asked by Gem - Tue Oct 28 17:08:41 2008 - - 23 Answers - 0 Comments A. My career involves assessing what elderly and disabled people can and cannot do for themselves and hiring workers to help them around the home, so I hope I can help you! Most elderly people are arthritic and stiff, frail, have some degree of memory, hearing, and sight loss, and also have trouble balancing due to the inevitable breakdown of their systems. Therefore, they most need help with bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, and standing for long periods of time, as well as reminders for appointments and medications. I am wondering how even a made-up handheld device could possibly do all of these things for anyone? Say if your downloading something, and editing a home video say cutting/splitting or encoding and your extracting or archiving files in winrar and your performing a spyware and virus check at the same time. That's quite a few read/write tasks running. just assuming the system itself could easily handle all those tasks running at once. Asked by C. But when they are executing individual commands in less than a billionth of a second each, it seems like they are following a lot of instructions at once. The answer to your question does not lie in the ability of the hardware but rather in the ability of the operating system to manage the hardware. Q. I'm using project pro 2007 to plan our current projects. There are certain processes that fire when something happens the in project (like the change management process firing on filling a change request). How do I represent these tasks on a project? They can't be put into a certain phase and they can't have time estimates as they depend upon the situation. Anyone find a way for dealing with this? Thanks Asked by Omar S - Tue Jul 28 05:17:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. This will depend on the project, how you manage your issues & risks and how this relates to the contingency (time and money). If there is an allowance for a level of change in the estimate, then you can reflect that in your plan. Any area that carries a high risk of change should carry a higher proportion of contingency, either as dummy TBD change tasks of as float. Change in itself is a change to the scope and therefore the plan. In the change management process you would carry out a "what if" to gauge the impact of the change. This would be included in the submission to the change acceptance decision, then be included in the plan if the change is approved.
