In my opinion, the best place to start would be the books that take place chronologically after Return of the Jedi, as this is where the publishing pretty much started. Look in the front of one of the more recently published books and you will see a timeline something like this: that shows the chronology of the story in the established timeline. You can't go too wrong by following the books in the order shown in the timeline, as most of these books were written in just about the order shown. A lot of what you will want to read also depends upon what interests you about Star Wars.
