Speaker

Does anyone know of any inspirational speakers?
Q. I am President of a small, non-profit charity group geared towards fundraising for local children in need. I am looking for guest speakers to speak at our monthly meetings. I have four slots to fill... each speaker need only speak once at one meeting...and the speakers need only speak for a half hour to an hour. I am looking for speakers involved with children, charities, or simply inspirational speakers, speakers who are disabled, etc... Does anyone know of any good speakers in the S. Shore (massachusetts) area I might be able to contact? Thank you so much for your help!

A. I know of a great speaker, but he is not in the S. Shore area. Matt Hoover, winner of the second season of the Biggest Loser, works with autistic children. He spoke at St. Joseph Catholic School in Marion, Iowa 2 years ago and did an amazing job. He is originally from Marion. His website is : www.matthoover.net

What is causing my speakers to have static and high pitched rings coming from them?
Q. I have a Dell Optiplex GX1p with a Windows 2000 Professional OS. I installed an audio card and bought some speakers recently, but when I turn on my computer and the speakers, I hear weird static or fuzzy sounds, along with a less audible high pitched ringing. When I play music, they practically go away and are barely heard in the background. It seems to be only noticeable when sound is not playing. I have checked the connection of the card and the speakers, but I have no idea how to make the weird sound go away.

A. First, check if your sound card is installed properly. Next, try your speakers on a mp3 player. If it works fine, your sound card has issues. Return to your dealer immediately. But if the speaker has the same behavior as to when it is connected to your sound card, your sound card is fine, your speaker is grounded. Open your speaker up and check all the wires that is connected to the board (except the power line. Remove your speaker's plug before opening.) Check and see if any of the wire's solder is bad. Resolder them. Also check to see if any of the wire's is cut and touching parts of the board. Wrap the wires with an electrical tape (usually black in color). Or better yet, replace them. What is the difference between computer speakers and hifi speakers?
Q. It seems to be the trend that speakers designed for computers have two (or four, or five, whatever) satellite speakers (tweeters?) and then a subwoofer. Whereas for hifis it seems that you have two speaker cabinets, with a woofer and a tweeter in each. what's the deal?

A. this isn not a question about hifi and computers but about the various audio formats available. Old fashioned 2.0 Stereo hi fi has 2 speakers each with bass mid and tweeter, but some HIFI systems are 5.1 and have similar setups with 5 or 7 speakers with a single bass speaker. the difference between 2.0 and 5.1 audio is the number of speakers and sub woofers. many HIFI buffs only use 2.0 stereo as music not coded for surround listening sounds echoey and odd when used on 5 speakers but you can switch 5.1 systems to 2.1 mode where it has stereo plus the subwoofer. a 2.0 system with 2 sub woofers in 2 cabinets is little different from a 2.1 system with 1 subwoofer and 2 separate mid/high range speakers) as the human ear cannot tell where… [cont.]
