What is the difference between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese?
Q. I have Portuguese friends from Portugal and they tend to use this "shh" sound a lot more than my Brazilian friends. What is the real difference between the languages?

A. Brazilian Portuguese is vowel-friendy (like Italian or Estonian) and Continental Portuguese is consonant-friendly (like Russian, Polish or Arab) so they sound pretty different. All soap operas and movies from Portugal are dubbed (or subtitled) into Brazilian Portuguese when shown in Brazil since we don't understand spoken Continental Portuguese (especially the standard version of it, which is based on vowel-dropping Lisbon speech) excelent: written: excelente is sounds like 1. eh-seh-lehn-tchee in Brazilian Portuguese (4 syllables) 2. shlent in Continental Portuguese (1 syllable) About the "shh" sounds: when an S comes at the end of a word in the European Portuguese, it becomes a sh sound, as in Portuges por-too-geysh , which is… [cont.]

A. Unless your a doctor, it will be very hard to find work in the UK. If your looking for a city I suggest not going to Newcastle or Liverpool because I don't think they are too fond on Immigrants. Try Leads, or London (even though you stated you don't like it) due to it being a highly populated immigrant city. Good luck where you go or what job you take on.

Q. My dad says 20 years ago he drank Portuguese beer at the Lisboa. Can I buy that in any casino or supermarket? Please provide the different brands I should look out for. Thanks!

A. I have been to Macau maybe 50 times the past few years...I can't recall ever seeing Portuguese beer, but I have to admit I wasn't looking for it. But, while beer shopping I always recognized everything I saw! And the biggest bummer that I have encountered at the casinos...there sell no beer or drinks inside the casinos! Sorry!
