In spaceflight, a launch vehicle or carrier rocket is a rocket used to carry a payload from the Earth's surface into outer space. A launch system includes the launch vehicle, the launch pad and other infrastructure. Usually the payload is an artificial satellite placed into orbit, but some spaceflights are sub-orbital while others enable spacecraft to escape Earth orbit entirely. A launch vehicle which carries its payload on a suborbital trajectory is often called a sounding rocket.

Have an accident ever happen between two satellites or beween a launch vehicle and an aircraft?
Q. Have an accident ever happen between two satellites or beween a launch vehicle and an aircraft?
Asked by Masoud T - Fri Sep 21 05:38:31 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, because aircraft are kept away when satellites are launched, and there has been no collisions between satellites, yet. However, satellites have been struck and either damaged or destroyed by debris in orbit or meteroids. A French military satellite was crippled when a piece of an exploded Ariane rocket stage knocked off a boom, leaving it tumbling in space out of control. There has been a few satellites that mysteriously either broke up or simply stopped functioning and an impact was the suspected cause. There are many objects up there that are plenty big enough to obliterate a satellite but can't be tracked from the ground, so the loss of these satellites remain a mystery. Paint flakes and other small particles sandblast solar arrays,… [cont.]

A three stage rocket is often used to launch space vehicles.?
Q. The first stage is capable of accelerating from zero to 500 m/s when burdened with both upper stages and the payload. The second stage can accelerate from zero to 2000 m/s when carrying the payload and the third stage. The small third stage can accelerate the payload from zero to 4500 m/s. How fast will the payload be travelling when all three rockets have expended their fuel?
Asked by amandany1 - Mon Oct 6 18:59:46 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Add them up. 500 + 2000 + 4500 = 7000 m/s .

Anyone have good ideas for egg launch?
Q. Our class has to mimic a space probe, and our teacher will launch a bottle rocket, with our egg and it's vehicle attached somehow. After the rocket reaches it's apex, the vehicle must detach from the rocket, and "launch." The egg has to survive, obviously, and also must land right side up. Does anyone have any ideas for this vehicle? I was thinking something along the lines of getting a styrofoam ball, weighing one side of it down. What do you guys think?

A. I don't know if Leggs panty-hose still comes in egg shaped packaging, but that with a foam lining may also work well. weigh down the top portion of the egg
