The guitar is a musical instrument of that typically has six strings, but four-, seven-, eight-, nine-, ten-, eleven-, twelve-, thirteen- and eighteen-string guitars also exist. The two primary families of guitar types are the electric guitars and the acoustic guitars. Three main types of acoustic guitars are the classical guitar, the steel-string flattop guitar, and the archtop guitar). Guitars are recognized as one of the primary instruments in flamenco, jazz, blues, country, mariachi, rock music, and many forms of pop. They can also be a solo classical instrument. Guitars may be played acoustically; the tone is produced by the vibration of the strings which is amplified by the body of the guitar which acts as a large hollow resonating chamber, or they may rely on an amplifier that can electronically manipulate tone. Such electric guitars were introduced in the 1930s, and they have continued to have a profound influence on popular culture since then. Traditionally guitars have been constructed of various woods and strung with animal gut, or more recently, with either nylon or steel strings. Guitars are made and repaired by luthiers. GNU Free Documentation License What's the difference between an acoustic guitar and a classical guitar? Q. I have a classical guitar right now, but it doesn't play very well. I don't know if it's just because it's a really cheap guitar or because I'm trying to play acoustic songs on a classical guitar. Does it make a difference if I used a classical guitar or an acoustic guitar? Asked by WOAH;;its Skye - Tue Dec 1 19:50:19 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. A classical guitar IS an acoustic guitar. There are two types of acoustic guitars, nylon string and steel string. An acoustic guitar is any guitar that is not an electric guitar. Nylon string guitars (classical) have a smaller body and a slightly wider neck and use nylon strings. Steel string (sometimes called "folk" guitars) usually have a larger body and a thinner neck and use steel strings. A steel string guitar is more common for folk, rock, blues, country, and bluegrass related styles. A nylon string is used more for classical and jazz styles. They are still the same instrument with the same tuning. Answered by gtarczar - Tue Dec 1 20:08:42 2009 What type of guitar strings are best for a beginner on an acoustic guitar? Q. i was given a guitar for my birthday and I have streel strings. my mom said that nylon strings would be easier to learn on, but will that affect the way my guitar sounds? what are the best kind of strings? Asked by JessSR1&2 - Sun Oct 19 22:06:39 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. A steel string acoustic guitar is designed and built to use steel strings and to sound best with steel strings. The problem with putting nylon strings on an acoustic guitar is that its difficult to install them. There are little metal balls on the ends of steel strings. You stuff the ball ends of the strings into holes into the acoustic guitar's bridge and anchor them in place with bridge pins. Nylon strings don't have little metal balls on the ends -- they're made to be tied on to the bridge of a classical guitar -- so putting them onto a steel string acoustic is tough. No matter whether you start out learning on nylon or steel strings, its going to be painful for the first few weeks as your fingertips get used to pressing the… [cont.] Answered by RachelS165 - Sun Oct 19 22:40:49 2008 What guitar pickups should i buy for my guitar?
Q. Hi guys, i have an ibanez with H-S-H configuration. My style is kinda sporadic and up until now i've been dealing with the stock INF pickups. I don't hate them or anything but i want a more personal sound. Do you guitar guys know any pickups that would fit the style of a player who plays metal, rock, blues, jazz and likes a good clean tone sounding pickup? THANKS!
