From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a story conveyed with moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. The process of filmmaking has developed into an art form and industry. Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement. The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (also called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures. Many other terms exist for an individual motion picture, including picture, picture show, moving picture, photo-play and flick. A common name for film in the United States is movie, while in Europe the term cinema is preferred. Additional terms for the field in general include the big screen, the silver screen, the cinema and the movies. From Wikipedia under the

What is it about old/classic films of the past or celebrities of that time so popular? How does one explain the obsession with the classic age, the people of those times, and the films, celebrities, those larger than life personalities that makes them immortal, what's the reason behind that? Is it the fact that they are superior to today's film industry and its people? Is it because they made better films than today, is it because they were the first, or is it simply because everyone is in love with the past and the people of the past? Care to lay out your opinion? Q. I was able to use windows movie maker with my old camcorder, but for some reason I can't upload any of the films I made with the handycam onto the program, even though I've already saved them onto the computer! If there's no way to put it onto movie maker, is there any other similar type of program I can use to edit my films? Asked by lisalolo - Mon Apr 27 15:59:41 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. which handycam? Minidv or minidvd? If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder . Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection. *** If you have a mini dvd camcorder .
