Nounastronauts
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person trained by a human spaceflight program to command, pilot, or serve as a crew member of a spacecraft. While generally reserved for professional space travelers, the term is sometimes applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists, politicians, journalists, and tourists. Until 2003, astronauts were sponsored and trained exclusively by governments, either by the military, or by civilian space agencies. With the sub-orbital flight of the privately-funded SpaceShipOne in 2004, a new category of astronaut was created: the commercial astronaut. From Wikipedia under the

I have enough difficulty when an itch occurs during a long motorcycle ride wearing my full face helmet. Is there a way astronauts can end what could possibly be hours of discomfort? I'm not interested in the momentum or force, just scratching through the helmet/suit. They can't lift the glass to scrath their nose, and I don't think the suit is large enough to pull ones arm inside the suit and push your hand through the neck to scratch your nose. So what can they do? Asked by DasKreestof - Tue Dec 19 03:20:27 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. They can't. They just have to learn to ignore itches. I recall one astronaut recently mentioning that in an interview. You have to be tough to be an astronaut, and willing to make giant sacrifices for the privilege of flying in space! I'm very curious about how much water astronauts would need to bring on a two year space mission. How much water would they be able to recycle? Asked by seapumas - Mon Sep 7 14:41:00 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. They can also use fuel cells, which can use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. The by product is heat and water. The ISS is trying out a urine to water recycler machine. Haven't heard how efficient it works. One novel idea about using water for space travel is to put it in front of the craft (or even around the craft) and freeze it. Then it acts as a shield against radiation and micro meteors. But look at how much water you use per day, besides just for drinking and cooking. Bathroom usage, clothes washing, object cleaning (like dishes) and watering the plants. 5 liters person per day might be a little low (I would go with 10), the rest of logic is sound. You will need backup systems and replacement parts (I would go with three,… [cont.] Answered by Nyx - Mon Sep 7 15:25:11 2009 If astronauts in space did not need special suits, they would still need to communicate via radio?
Q. If astronauts in space did not need special suits, they would still need to communicate via radio, rather than speaking directly to each other. Why is that? Asked by Duo Owns Me - Mon Mar 2 10:21:04 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. They would not be able to communicate via voice at all. Their mics would not work as there is no air for sound waves to travel and create the vibration in the transducer that would send the signal. The space suit creates the local atmosphere necessary for the mics to operate properly.
