An image (from Latin imago) is an artifact, or has to do with a two-dimensional (a picture), that has a similar appearance to some subject—usually a physical object or a person. Images may be two-dimensional, such as a photograph, screen display, and as well as a three-dimensional, such as a statue. They may be captured by optical devices—such as cameras, mirrors, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, etc. and natural objects and phenomena, such as the human eye or water surfaces. The word image is also used in the broader sense of any two-dimensional figure such as a map, a graph, a pie chart, or an abstract painting. In this wider sense, images can also be rendered manually, such as by drawing, painting, carving, rendered automatically by printing or computer graphics technology, or developed by a combination of methods, especially in a pseudo-photograph. A volatile image is one that exists only for a short period of time. This may be a reflection of an object by a mirror, a projection of a camera obscura, or a scene displayed on a cathode ray tube. A fixed image, also called a hard copy, is one that has been recorded on a material object, such as paper or textile by photography or digital processes. A mental image exists in an individual's mind: something one remembers or imagines. The subject of an image need not be real; it may be an abstract concept, such as a graph, function, or "imaginary" entity. For example, Sigmund Freud claimed to have dreamt purely in aural-images of dialogues. The development of synthetic acoustic technologies and the creation of sound art have led to a consideration of the possibilities of a sound-image made up of irreducible phonic substance beyond linguistic or musicological analysis. Answered by TV guy - Sun May 10 15:25:42 2009 Where can I find professional clipart and background images online? Q. I am looking for a website or sites that have high quality digital clipart images -- particularly with contemporary/classic background patterns. I am looking for images that I can use to design custom invitations on my computer. I don't mind paying for the images and I don't want any sites that claim to give "free" clipart, because those are usually low quality. If you're a graphic designer, artist, scrapbooker, etc., I could really use your help. Thanks! Asked by MS - Sat Jan 12 17:27:41 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Answered by Kimss L - Mon Jan 14 21:55:02 2008 What decision do you make as graphic designer as far as selecting images?
Q. I know that as a professional graphic designer, you will either create your own images or buy existing images. So my question is: when should you use existing images? and when do you decide to draw your own?? What factors affect your decision? Also, if you decide to use existing image, how do you find the images that look exactly the same as those in your mind?? It's been confusing me for a long time. I hope you guys out there can help me! Thank you! Asked by draballs - Sun Mar 23 19:12:03 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is ALWAYS dependent on the client's budget. My own illustrations go for nearly $100 an hour, while simple design layouts go for as little as $50 to $60 an hour. If I have clip art or stock photo images available, I can save my clients several hundred dollars in my labor. And, believe me, while I would rather get paid my premium rate for a project, I would still rather get paid something than let a client go. Some clients are willing to strike a happy medium by paying me to research the EXACT stock photo image, especially if it is of a subject that I cannot capture with my own camera equipment. (inaccesible subject matter or, something, technically beyond my photographic skills) Remember, that as a pro, it is not what I have in my… [cont.] Answered by Vince M - Sun Mar 23 21:57:27 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Images" See also:
