A newsletter is a regularly distributed publication generally about one main topic that is of interest to its subscribers. Newspapers and leaflets are types of newsletters. Additionally, newsletters delivered electronically via email (e-Newsletters) have gained rapid acceptance for the same reasons email in general is gaining popularity over printed correspondence.

Many newsletters are published by clubs, churches, societies, associations, and businesses, especially companies, to provide information of interest to their members, customers or employees. Some newsletters are created as money-making ventures and sold directly to subscribers. Sending newsletters to customers and prospects is a common marketing strategy, which can have benefits and drawbacks.

General attributes of newsletters include news and upcoming events of the related organization, as well as contact information for general inquiries.

How often should our company send out newsletters?
Q. My boss believes we should send our newsletters out every week. I and another co worker believe that we should send them out every two weeks. We think, that if you send out too many then the reader will simply delete them and never look at them. But if you send them every two weeks people will be more inclined to see what we have to say. I just want to settle this by asking the people what they think.

A. MySQL database with list of addresses. Simple PHP script to read the addresses from the database and send the newsletter out to all those addresses. You can set your own PC up as a server for this. Investigate XAMPP

What is the best computer program for creating newsletters and brochures for work?
Q. Print Shop has too many bugs. MS Publisher has too many limitations. I need something that will allow for text and color graphics, as well as offer many background design options. I'd like to be able to edit the graphics as well.

A. I would definitely recommend Adobe InDesign. www.adobe.com You can place text, graphics, graphs, etc and it works hand-in-hand with Adobe PhotoShop. You can do some editing of the graphics in InDesign as well. Good luck.
