What advice can you give to start your own PC repair services?
Q. I just want to do PC repair services on the side. I am not looking to quit my daytime job, or even invest in a store to run a business. Does anyone know of any websites that can set me on the right foot here?

A. My husband does the exact same thing. I recommend getting some business cards printed and then handing them out everywhere. Work would be a good place. Then it can spread word of mouth. We have been doing this for 3 years and now we have over 200 customers and my husband has a side job 4 nights a week. We also set up a place in our basement so that he can network more than one computer at a time. We charge about half of what the "professional guys" charge and the people are happy writing the check. Great side gig.

Do you need an A+ or any other Certs in order to advertise yourself, or can you do it without any certs?

A. You technically don't need any sort of certification to do PC repairs. Many of the techs I know are super dudes who can strip a computer apart and tell you what's wrong simply by the smell of the circuits (joke)... but they have diddly squat when it comes to any sort of certification. Some folks are just not good when it comes to tests. HOWEVER... certification is a good way of verifying your competence in a given field. It's also critical if you want to get noticed by corporate clients and you intend to take on bigger jobs which may include networking and more complex tasks, certification is the way to go. Some companies DO have to comply with internal policies that state they can only give jobs to certified vendors. Andrew
