Surfing is the term is used for a surface water sport in which the person surfing moves along the face of a breaking ocean wave (the "surf"). However, surfing is not restricted to saltwater, but can sometimes take place on rivers, using a standing wave. The main use of the word "surfing" is for riding waves using a board on which the surfer stands. Other forms include bodyboarding, in which the individual riding the wave only partly raises his upper body from the board surface, and from bodysurfing, where no board at all is used.

Two major subdivisions within contemporary stand-up surfing are longboarding and shortboarding, reflecting differences in surfboard design and riding style.

In tow-in surfing (most often, but not exclusively, associated with big wave surfing), a surfer is towed into the wave by a motorized water vehicle, such as a jetski, generally because standard paddling is often ineffective when trying to match a large wave's higher speed.

Depending on wave size, direction, and on wind conditions, sailboats can also surf on larger waves on open sailing waters. Unlike "surfers", sailors usually do not surf in beach waves, and they usually do not go out in order to surf; instead, the wave and wind conditions may allow them to boat surf during a sailing trip. More recently, the same principle of craft-based surfing has been increasingly used by kayakers, notably in the sport of playboating, which is mostly carried out on rivers (see playspot).

Surfing-related sports such as paddleboarding and sea kayaking do not require waves, and other derivative sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing rely primarily on wind for power, yet all of these tools may also be used to ride waves.

Recently with the use of V-drive boats, wakesurfing has grown. Wakesurfing is surfing behind a boat, riding the wave or wake which is created by the boat.

How do you pull into a barrel when surfing?
Q. I have been surfing now for about 6 years and comfortable in head high waves however am yet to get barrelled. I was wondering how easy it is to pull in to the green room and any tips when you are inside!!

A. Technical surfing questions usually get butchered in this site, because its hard to verbalize the steps necessary to accomplish a given maneuver. First of all, you need a barrel. getting really tubed depends as much on the wave as it does on the surfer. If you get the right conditions, you have to slow down and make a clean line across the face of the wave. That's easier riding forward than it is riding backside, but it can be done either way. Slowing down enough, and staying far enough away from the shoulder are key. However, there is no way I can TELL you how to do that. You have to be in the water and feeling it for yourself.

A. Hi, You have several options. Australia's coastals are amazing. Whichever you choose they all have great places to surf and explore the holiday areas. Here are some of the options you can do: 1. Will rebooting computer erase all our Internet surfing record?
Q. I'm not really familiar about computer maintenance but I'm planning to reboot my computer if it is able to erase all my Internet surfing record and make the surfing smoother again.
Asked by Ephram Saracen - Mon Apr 6 23:40:14 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Um, no. Rebooting, is just turning it off and back on again. Now, if you mean restoring. Re-installing Windows back to it's original state ( I assume this an OEM computer like HP, Dell, etc ) using the restore disks, yes. In fact you will lose everything. If all you want do is clean up your hard disk. You can start by clicking the "Tools" tab in IE> Select Internet Options>Under Browsing History, click the delete tab> Then delete everything in the box that pops up. Also, Open My Computer. Right click on your C:/ drive and select properties. Click Disk cleanup, make sure all the boxes are checked in the pop up screen. Ckick okay. Finally, in the C drive properties, select the tools tab. Defragment.
