Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport that is first documented as being played in southern England in the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, cricket had developed to the point where it had become the national sport of England. The expansion of the British Empire led to cricket being played overseas and by the mid-19th century the first international matches were being held. Today, the game's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), has 104 member countries. With its greatest popularity in the Test playing countries, cricket is widely regarded as the world's second most popular sport, after association football.

The rules of the game are known as the Laws of Cricket. These are maintained by the ICC and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which holds the copyright. A cricket match is played on a cricket field at the centre of which is a pitch. The match is contested between two teams of eleven players each. One team bats, trying to score as many runs as possible without being dismissed ("out") while the other team bowls and fields, trying to dismiss the other team’s batsmen and limit the runs being scored. When the batting team has used all its available overs or has no remaining batsmen, the roles become reversed and it is now the fielding team’s turn to bat and try to outscore the opposition.

There are several variations in the length of a game of cricket. In professional cricket this ranges from a limit of 20 overs per side (Twenty20) to a game played over 5 days (Test cricket). Depending on the form of the match being played, there are different rules that govern how a game is won, lost, drawn or tied.

How to handle a hiding cricket in my home?
Q. I have a handleful of crickets that have snuck into my house. Probably when the kids left the door open or something. When I see them I get rid of them. The problem is that at night, they love to chirp so friggin loud. Yet, as loud as they chrip "Here I am", I sometimes have a hard time finding them. For me, it is very hard to pinpoint the source of the cricket. I can get to the right room, but then just as you think you close in, they stop chriping for a while. It seems like they can "throw thier voice" somehow, making it hard to find them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find, or safely exterminate crickets. I am trying to avoid using a ton of pesticides in the house as I have small children. I tried to make a game… [cont.]

A. I went absolutely bezerk once on a hunt for this annoying cricket in my flat that chirped intermittently. I remember listening for thr chirp, then running to where i thought it was , waiting for a bit till it chirped again, and then thinking he moved. Went on for about a week. Then I realized it was the smoke detector battery warning going off. DOH! Not my finest hour

Getting rid of cricket without poison?
Q. Okay, this isn't the most important question in the world but it's sure driving me crazy. I have a cricket with a very loud chirp behind my refrigerator. Every time I get near he (or she) quiets up and if I pull the refrigerator out from the wall the cricket is nowhere to be found. I don't want to use bug spray or poison around the refrigerator but I don't know how to get rid of the thing. I tried sprinkling red pepper behind the refrigerator because I'd heard once that it keeps ants away. The cricket was quiet for most of one night, but now he's back and from the sound of it I think he may have actually developed a taste for the stuff. Any suggestions for sending him away permanently (dead or alive) would be much appreciated. … [cont.]

A. Go to a L&G Center and get a small container of diatomaceous earth. It's the microscopic silicon skeletons of certain plankton in the ocean. Puff some of it behind the fridge and it will kill it. Then next time its time to clean the floor you can clean it up. It's a 100% natural product with no poison.
