Proper nounSingular Jupiter Plural - Jupiter
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a mass slightly less than one-thousandth of the Sun but is two and a half times the mass of all the other planets in our Solar System combined. Jupiter is classified as a gas giant along with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Together, these four planets are sometimes referred to as the Jovian planets. The planet was known by astronomers of ancient times and was associated with the mythology and religious beliefs of many cultures. The Romans named the planet after the Roman god Jupiter. When viewed from Earth, Jupiter can reach an apparent magnitude of −2.94, making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky after the Moon and Venus. (Mars can briefly match Jupiter's brightness at certain points in its orbit.) Jupiter is primarily composed of hydrogen with a quarter of its mass being helium; it may also have a rocky core of heavier elements. Because of its rapid rotation, Jupiter's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it possesses a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). The outer atmosphere is visibly segregated into several bands at different latitudes, resulting in turbulence and storms along their interacting boundaries. A prominent result is the Great Red Spot, a giant storm that is known to have existed since at least the 17th century when it was first seen by telescope. Surrounding the planet is a faint planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere. There are also at least 63 moons, including the four large moons called the Galilean moons that were first discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610. Ganymede, the largest of these moons, has a diameter greater than that of the planet Mercury. Jupiter has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Voyager flyby missions and later by the Galileo orbiter. The most recent probe to visit Jupiter was the Pluto-bound New Horizons spacecraft in late February 2007. The probe used the gravity from Jupiter to increase its speed. Future targets for exploration in the Jovian system include the possible ice-covered liquid ocean on the moon Europa. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What do you think of the statement that Jupiter in Capricorn is in fall? Q. I know what it means, but I'm wondering what the rest of you think. Do you place a great deal of significance on falls? Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. I think of Jupiter as expansive, and Saturn the opposite. Is Jupiter in fall a bad thing? Jupiter can be too expansive, generous, over-indulgent. Wouldn't the sign of Capricorn and the influence of Saturn rein in the negative attributes of Jupiter? Or would the effect be restrictive and limiting. I'm seeing a miser who has made tons of money and still thinks he's poor, but he's happy to be that way. Yes, I think Jupiter and Capricorn could find a healthy balance. I think the initial reasoning for its "fall" status is, Jupiter "naturally" encourages expansion. How does one expand in a Capricorn way? Not a smooth mix, but certainly not impossible. Other than your negative example, you could also imagine someone who refuses to grow and expand, but stays stuck in his/her old ways... But I prefer the idea of steady, sure-footed growth... How does the density of the Galilean moons vary with increasing distance from Jupiter? Is there a trend to this variation? And if so does anyone know why? Answered by Matt T - Wed Jun 3 14:59:35 2009 why is the planet Jupiter traveling so fast now ? which degrees of which zodiac sign is it now also?
Q. anyone can give the speed it is traveling according to astronomical tables and what causes Jupiter to move faster than other times and then slower ? is it a certain constellation that causes planets to move faster through or what? what this depends on? and when , what determines it when Jupiter slows down before becoming "Stationary" and then appearing "Retrograde" in the sky. please explain how astronomers as well as older astroners explained this phenemonon if you can. thanks for your answers! Asked by ! - Tue Mar 2 11:26:07 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Jupiter's orbit is very nearly circular, so it moves at more or less the same speed around the sun all the time. There is a slight amount of variation, because no orbit is exactly circular. Jupiter APPEARS to slow down and speed up in the sky because Earth, too, moves about the sun. Earth, being closer, moves faster around the sun. You can imagine what is happening if you imagine two cars going around a circular race track. The car on the inner lane is moving faster and the car on the outer lane is moving slower. When the car on the inner lane is catching up to the car on the outer lane, the outer lane car appears to move backwards (or retrograde) across the land beyond to driver of the inner car. When driver of the inner car… [cont.] Answered by brad_hoehne - Tue Mar 2 11:39:07 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Jupiter" TV: Jupiter's Cock I'm Spartacus! - Spectator.co.uk
