how do i set up an embedded control system using PC104 components?
Q. What is a comprehensive tutorial to start at? I am pretty much totally out of my element on this project. I have plenty of experience with C++ and much less with C. I am not really familiar with system calls to ports and drivers or embedded systems OSs. We just need a control system that can handle 30 or so Digital I/Os and 10 or so Analog I/Os, is there a better and cheaper way to do this than build a PC104 stack? If you want to answer by just pointing me to a link that would be great too? I just need a starting place to go from. thanks

A. Since you know programming why dont you install linux on your PC 104 and write a program to contro your IOS. We had a project where we were using a webcam for a robots visual navigation and we used pc104, with linux OS. search WDL (white dwarf of linux) on the net and download it on the PC104. For the control of the ports you have to do some homework. The other point is that C is prefered than C++ for higher level programming since its faster. This is worth noting
